Week 2: January 8-14, 2023

This week on my journey towards Eldership, I have started using scripture to support statements I make. Additionally, I’ve been attempting to expound upon the summarized scriptures used throughout these statements by writing the entire scriptures and/or citing them. Backing up what you are speaking is vital to being a persuasive person and trustworthy teacher – Dylan Herring

“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ””
‭‭- Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT

More importantly, because the words of God feed people, I as an elder would need to be certain that every word coming from my mouth is the same as from God’s. This is so that I may properly help nourish the congregation and help them grow closer towards God. If what I say does not match up with God’s words, I may lead people astray and further from God rather than closer. Adding scripture to support my points not only gives the nourishing written word of God to me and my people directly, but also a way for all of us to check my work. Take note. It can be useful for anyone and not exclusively elders. – Dylan Herring
