Weaning: Joshua 5:12 and 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

“No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan.” – Joshua 5:12 NLT

Really heavily reminds me of a baby weaning from its mothers breast milk, or maybe a person moving out after growing up. God provided pretty much all Israel’s food for 40 years while its next generation was growing up in the wilderness and Israel was getting ready to move onto the next stage of life. That stage being providing for itself and working for its own food. We as Christian have to develop a similar mindset. – Dylan Herring

“Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready, for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?” – 1 Corinthians 3:1-3 NLT

As Christians we eventually have to work hard and dig into scripture for actual growth. We can’t always just keep talking about the basic doctrines of Christianity, but how to use all of scripture for everyday living and learn everything we can about and from them. We all at some point will need to wean as the Israelites did to get the most out of our relationship with God. Keep that in mind if you are a new Christian. – Dylan Herring
