““As you know,” he said, “the kingdom was mine. All Israel looked to me as their king. But things changed, and the kingdom has gone to my brother; for it has come to him from the Lord.” – 1 Kings 2:15 NIV
This is genuinely a hilarious statement. We can see from 1 Kings 1 that Adonijah was never actually king not even close. I made a post yesterday talking about Adonijah living in a daydream seeking to be king and investing too much into that and not enough into reality. Adonijah had a completely failed rebellion. He only ever proclaimed himself king and had no official position. For him to lie and say “the kingdom was mine” shows a hatred of truth in his heart, and that he would rather deceive himself with a lie than face the truth that he was not king. I’m reminded of all of the times the Bible talks about Satan twisting things that are good and evil. Here is an example:
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” – Isaiah 5:20 NIV
Sin causes people to completely twist their understanding of good and evil and do all sorts of evil acts. We need to remain grounded in God’s word to remember what is truth and not let sin twist our perceptions of good and evil.
