This week on my journey towards eldership, I have grown in my relationship with work. I have dedicated a lot of time to academy work and have grown in my ability to discipline myself into doing work even when I did not want to. This, however, has not yielded perfect results as with all of the effort I put into the academy work, I failed to finish my assignments on time. This has major issues with the concepts of oaths as seen in Mattew 5:
““Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’” – Matthew 5:33 NIV
This verse is basically saying that if you make a commitment to something then you must fulfill that commitment. As I had made a commitment to the academy to do the work assigned, failing to finish that work was failing to be a man of my word, breaking an oath and thereby sinning. This is a problem I need to learn from and people in this day and age in general as a whole need to learn from. We need to actually be people of our words.
