“while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”” – 1 Kings 19:4 NIV
This passage is extremely significant. Notice this behemoth of prayer faltering. He was a man who prayed for a 3 year draught to start and stop and for fire to destroy an altar. The faith behind the prayer was never something in question which makes it so interesting. There was so much that went behind it, but praise be to God that natural death isn’t within our agency because a few short verses later God provides what Elijah needs to get back up on his journey. His prayer was not a great one in nature, but it does highlight something significant: it is not our will, but God’s in the grand scheme of things. Don’t forget that when something doesn’t go exactly the way you want.
