“Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall. The fury against Israel was great; they withdrew and returned to their own land.” – 2 Kings 3:27 NIV
It seems as though the Moabite king was trying to appease the god Chemosh with the sacrifice of his firstborn son. The king seemed to think that the sacrifice of his son would satisfy Chemosh and turn the tides of battle or something along those lines. Sadly it did not. Luckily with Christ we do not have to worry about having that mindset as Christians because we have been freed from the law and freed from needing to appease God. We don’t have to sacrifice things to be made right with the real God, or get our prayers answered, the way the Moabite king did by sacrificing his son. God will help guide us and actively seek us and help teach us.
