“He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord.” – 2 Kings 8:18 NIV
Jehoram married the daughter of Ahab and she caused him to follow the ways of the kings of Israel. This kind of gives me king Solomon vibes with his wives. This is one of the major reasons why God told the Israelites not to marry the Canaanites, to not be led astray. Whenever they married apart from themselves they lost sight of truth and God and did evil. We need to be aware that this as it also applies to us in who we surround ourselves with. For example, we are called not to be unequally yoked:
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” – 2 Corinthians 6:14 NIV
This means we shouldn’t be married to an unbeliever for the exact reason of keeping us from being led astray. It isn’t just with our spouses but our relationship with the world.
Generally be careful who you surround yourself with keeping everything in mind. Here is a verse:
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” – Proverbs 13:20 NIV
Keep in mind wisdom comes from fear of the Lord:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7 NIV
