Fully Intented For God: 2 Kings 10:28-31 and 1 Samuel 12:24

“So Jehu destroyed Baal worship in Israel. However, he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit—the worship of the golden calves at Bethel and Dan. The Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in accomplishing what is right in my eyes and have done to the house of Ahab all I had in mind to do, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” Yet Jehu was not careful to keep the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam, which he had caused Israel to commit.” – 2 Kings 10:28-31 NIV

The issue with Jehu is doing things partly for the Lord and the rest for himself. He stopped the “crusade” part way through before destroying the golden calves. Because of this Israel did not stop its idolatry and continued its sins against the Lord. There will be lasting consequences to that decision for both Israel and for Jehu as a result. Israel will eventually be judged if it doesn’t eventually repent and Jehu will as well. The moral of the story is that doing things for God needs to be done with the full intent of your heart and not partial or else you will cause issues for yourself and or others.

Here is a message from Samuel during his farewell message to the Israelites:

“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” – 1 Samuel 12:24 NIV
