Money Doesn’t Really Buy You Happiness?: 2 Corinthians 6:10

“Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” – 2 Corinthians 6:10 NLT

Paul turns the modern view of contentment on its head here. In a passage listing the ways Paul and his companions are truly demonstrating the ways they are servants of God so their ministry wouldn’t be discredited, Paul makes it clear that even though he is poor and owns nothing physically, he sees himself having everything he needs spiritually and then some being even to the point of being rich spiritually. This is clearly a far cry from our societies view of money equaling happiness and contentment. So why is that? It is because God equals contentment not money and Paul understands that. Christ didn’t have a whole lot to live on either and he was perfectly content in the Father and so were so many of the prophets and other important Biblical figures. We need to remember that in this money crazed world and not fall for the capitalistic scheme.
