“Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:1-2 NIV
This passage is made up of the words grace and peace. The word grace in Greek is charis. Charis means good willed, loving kindness, good favored or that which affirms joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, or loveliness. Peace or in Greek, eirene, which means a state of security, safety, prosperity, and tranquility and such, is what Paul also wants for the Philippians from God. In either case, the intent by Paul is good and pure and demonstrates how we ought to be towards one another in our intents. We ought to want people to feel safe and secure and feel tranquil in God as well as have God’s kindness, goodwill, sweetness, and all of that be directed towards each other and feel it.
