Learn Love: Philippians 1:9-10 and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,” – Philippians 1:9-10 NIV

My thoughts are that we need knowledge and discernment in order to properly love someone. This is the same thing that Paul says. I am just thinking about the idea that knowing someone’s needs, wants, desires, aspirations, strengths, weaknesses, and how they respond to stimuli will help you love them better and give them better advice and be in better relationship with them. Of course it isn’t essential to know all of this to have a basic level of love with them since all we need for that is to be selfless and focus on giving them God whether we are effective in it or not. Those is the basics of love. And we know the basics of the definition of love from 1 Corinthians 13 which says this:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV
