“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel” – Philippians 1:27 NIV
Paul tells the Philippians in this letter that regardless of the outcome of what happens from his imprisonment/judgement, the Philippians don’t and even shouldn’t let that impact their ability to conduct themselves in a way worthy of the Gospel. This is a present reality for all believers. We don’t need to let life events rock the boat on our ability to do what we are supposed to. We should be able to do right apart from what is happening around us. I just think of the chaos of the sea and Jesus sleeping in it and it even calming it and his disciples when they were fearing for their lives in Mark 4:38-41 which says this:
“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”” – Mark 4:38-41 NIV
We need to be able to have control over our actions in response to environments and stimuli or else there will be all sorts of issues people can find.
