God Works in Us: Philippians 2:13 and Hebrews 13:20-21

“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” – Philippians 2:13 NIV

I think a lot of people have this misconceived notion that Christians are primarily the ones doing the work in the sanctification process. You hear a lot of “I have to grow in this and that”, but in reality it is more like allowing God to work since he is the one that works within us. It is moving in line with him, which sometimes looks like outright stepping out of the way like with our worries and fears for example. Don’t be mistaken and let God do the heavy lifting, but be there to lift with them and help none the less in the process because that is how you will grow. Remember though it’s not entirely, or even primarily on your shoulders. Here is a second verse that basically says the same thing:

“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” – Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV
