Week 21: May 21st – May 27th, 2023

It’s been a bit. I missed last weeks post for failure to be disciplined. An update on the situation with YouTube: Since cutting it out I’ve had less issues with media altogether, however, I’ve still found ways to skirt and find excuses to not do, or procrastinate, personal work like Elders Academy. This is an issue. If I am not doing what I know I am supposed to be doing then I am sinning. This is a sin of lack of self control, and also a demonstration of an issue with managing my own household even if it just consists of myself. These are, as I’ve said many times in previous posts, not good things to find in an Elder because one who cannot control himself and sins will lead others into sin as he leads them, and a lack of personal management demonstrates that on a larger scale, he would not be able to manage even more people and burdens. Here are two passages that speak to the necessity of self control and ability to manage one’s own household for Eldership:

“Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.” – Titus 1:7-8 NIV

“He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)” – 1 Timothy 3:4-5 NIV

Titus 1:8 speaks of an overseer/elder needing to have self control where 1 Timothy 3:4-5 demonstrates the need for an elder to have the ability to manage his own family/household well and why.

In all honesty, I can make any excuse in the book such as “I don’t have time”, but I can always make time, and I can always make it a priority to do what I need to do. I need to not let myself get distracted. I need to not distract myself. I need to not procrastinate. And I need to put God in the center of this work. That is how I will succeed. Prayers will be much appreciated.
