“Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so.” – Hebrews 6:1-3 NIV
It is the goal of the Christian to continually strive towards a greater knowledge of God and Christ. We are to be lovers of wisdom. According to Proverbs wisdom is something we should get at all costs:
“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”” – Proverbs 4:5-9 NIV
If we get wisdom, we may lose a lot, but we also gain much in return such as protection. This is why we must continue to grow in understanding and continue to grow in wisdom. Not gaining wisdom and developing past the newborn stage of Christianity is an issue as only firstly we’d be in danger, but even more.
