You’re Proficient but Not Godly – Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭6

“Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”” – Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV

This is another one of those situations that is pretty clever for Nebuchadnezzar to do. If he forces all of his people to worship a common “god” then they will end up being united in that no matter the language or location, all people know the king and know his “splendor” and all worship the king. This is something that can unite the people. The other aspect of this is the concept of throwing those who rebel against his commands into a blazing furnace. This means those who are unwilling to commit in this form will end up being removed and will no longer be a threat for unity. In a way it’s a way to remove threats to his kingdom quickly and easily. All in all that is to say this is a clever tactic to increase the stability of his kingdom. However, this is only a worldly tactic and trying to remove people who have issues with you is not Godly or good, but evil. It is murder. And idolatry is also evil. Nebuchadnezzar ran his kingdom well in the sense of by earthly standards, but by Godly standards it fell far short because of the evil done by it. Let this be a lesson that you may be proficient at a task but not be doing right by it and doing good with it. It’d be done in vain. God should come first. In the end Nebuchadnezzar kingdom might have actually run better if he followed God’s will for it.
