In Excess: Isaiah 43:24

“You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses.” – Isaiah 43:24 NIV

Calamus is used in some of the most precious perfumes. The meaning of lavished is to bestow in excess. The Lord doesn’t just get the usual amounts. What he gets is the best of the best and most precious things and at the highest quantities we can give and we get whatever is left that he gives back. We need to let him have control over our lives and us and not be so attached to the things that enslave us.
