“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:4-5, 9 NIV
Isaiah here shows us a man who is perfect in sacrifice. This man gave up himself solely for our sake. There is clearly no benefit to himself in the process. He suffered and had the ultimate brand of wicked even in death. We need to be able to understand the significance of the sacrifice, what that means for the selflessness we need to have, and what that means for the meaning of love. He is perfect in his love, sacrifice, and selflessness.
