“For day after day they seek me out; they seem eager to know my ways, as if they were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. They ask me for just decisions and seem eager for God to come near them. ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?’ “Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high.” – Isaiah 58:2-4 NIV

These people present themselves as people of God. Yet they only seem to be eager to hear, and have God come near to them. Even if God told them his will and what to do and etc., would they even listen? They seem to have real no care about God’s will. When they’re done acting like God’s people they go back to acting like the ungodly, the godless. God knows the true intentions of these people, that they will not listen. People need to ready their heart for God’s will and actually be willing to listen to what God says and not just fake it and legitimately be willing to do it. Only then will God actually give you his will or actually speak to you or actually hear you. Otherwise, it’s only in vain that he works.
