““Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in anger I struck you, in favor I will show you compassion. Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations— their kings led in triumphal procession.” – Isaiah 60:10-11 NIV
This is a good example of why we shouldn’t place our own value on other peoples opinions, or on wealth, or on worldly things. God shows favor to Israel in this example. It clearly shows that he’s in control of the situation. It also shows that wealth came after God showed favor to them, and not that God showed favor because of the wealth. So then did the value that God placed on them change? This clearly is not the case. God struck Israel in his anger because of the fact they were sinning and he wanted them to repent. God‘s opinion of them didn’t change due to the wealth that they had because he gave it to them. People’s opinion of you changes and goes in favor and out of favor, but God’s love remains forever and his value towards us remains forever the same if not growing stronger. Let us base our value on the value God places on us and not on man’s opinion of us due to our circumstances.
