The Model of Learning: Titus 2:2-8

”Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.“ – Titus 2:2-8 NIV

We can see the mentorship model of learning and teaching that the Christianity teaches clearly in this passage. We see that the priority of teaching is the older people, which will often be church elders/pastors. Then the older women will teach and urge the younger women. The younger men are also encouraged to live according to the teaching given to the elderly. The model is always to start with the older and more mature believer getting the information to filter it and such and then deliver it to a mentee of some sort and then that mentee will be able to teach it to their own mentee. This isn’t the only time we see this model. We see the discipleship/mentorship model demonstrated by Jesus and his own mentorship/discipleship group of the 12 apostles and then them mentoring their own disciples and so on. Mentorship/Discipleship is seen throughout scripture and is such an important model in Christianity.
