Love Actual Justice: Acts 25:10-11

”Paul answered: “I am now standing before Caesar’s court, where I ought to be tried. I have not done any wrong to the Jews, as you yourself know very well. If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!”“ – Acts 25:10-11 NIV

Paul is a lover of justice as all should be. Paul would not be against a right and just imprisonment if he had done something that was an actual crime against Rome. The reason for this is he believes and seeks to imitate a righteous and just God who loves righteousness so much he wasn’t willing to let our sin go when we sinned and instead he was willing to give up his son for the sake of making things legally right and executing justice. Paul however saw that such a situation was not the one he was in and refused to believe he deserved death for the things he had done to the Jews or Rome, which in fact were lovingly preaching the Gospel to them and sharing his testimony. He was also willing to bank on the absurdity of the charges against him by appealing to Caesar, getting proven right, and also showing whole watching world that Christianity has validity. Let’s own up to our sin and enjoy just consequences of sin when it actually occurs as something to learn from and evidence of God’s own justice, and let us fight against injustice when it occurs.
