”Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.“ – Matthew 6:34 NIV
Here at the end of Matthew 6 Jesus says something simple and yet profound: Take things one day at a time. Often we see the things we need to regardless of dates as one big list. When we see this list we rightly get overwhelmed because we treat this big list as if it all needs to get done right now. One key thing to being a productive person is to break up a big project or list into manageable steps and tasks that can be done each day. When we do things this way we don’t get overwhelmed with the entire process but are able to be at ease with the simple tasks to be done each day without concern about what comes ahead. This isn’t to say that we shouldn’t plan ahead and adjust future plans if things go wrong or not care about our future schedules and goals (After all without those we would be far less productive), but that we shouldn’t hyper-fixate on the future and get bogged down by what’s to come. The future isn’t set in stone and many things can change our plans. It’s not right to focus so heavy on the future mights when we have actual cans right in front of us we are able to affect.
